chapter 3: february 25 , 2025 on bord guide, « omaha D-Day explorers » formula , 3 hours, private tour wholly dedicated to omaha beach

Today’s Omaha Beach explorers came from Le Mans, France. Valerie and Christophe chose the Omaha guided tour with a guide in their car. This tour is wholly dedicated to Omaha Beach: a three-hour guided tour who took us from east to west of the mythical D-Day Beach.

It’s always a pleasure and an experience for visitors to enter the blockhouses of the Atlantic Wall and discover, sector by sector, the most emblematic points of Omaha Beach.

We start with the most beautiful viewpoint on the beach. Site of a German fortification which was occupied by around thirty German soldiers on June 6, 1944. This is the opportunity to visit the tobruks which housed machine guns and mortars. A good starting point for understanding the history of Omaha Beach.

A magnificent, sunny afternoon, ideal for discovery.
It’s an opportunity to experience some powerful moments, in particular near the statue of the soldiers of the 116th RCT of the 29th Division. It’s the moment to recall the tragedy experienced by the first assault wave on Dog green sector.

Near the statue, we study the details of the GI’s equipment: on his shoulders her wears a gas detection brassard, this could turn to pink if exposed to chemical agents. We can see this brassard on this picture token few hours before the landing when those soldiers were on board onto a ship leading them to the landing beaches, few hours before H-Hour, June 6, 1944. The soldier wear also on his chest a black waterproof gas mask bag. A piece of equipment that can be seen in most photos of GI’s on D-Day at Omaha
