Today’s Omaha Beach explorers came from Normandy, Brittany and Paris. They had chosen the « on board » Omaha Beach guided tour.

On Omaha Beach, the wind and currents exposed the remains of the wooden pilings installed by the Germans.
These pilings, which were covered at high tide, were generally topped with a mine. It was a device designed to sink landing craft.
This is the first time I've seen these remains of pilings in 30 years. There are at least thirty of them in front of Ruquet in Saint Laurent sur Mer.

Omaha Beach guided tours always offer some wonderfull surprises.
This archive photo shows the workers driving the piles into the sand using a fire hose.

We ended the visit at the German military cemetery of La Cambe. The largest military cemetery in Normandy, where 22,145 soldiers are buried. A very powerful moment that I will return to in another article.
